Black Metal Faces

Over the past seven months I’ve been working on and off on a series of small 6×6 inch deconstructed corpse-paint face paintings, experimenting with variations of  woodburning and painting techniques.  I have five completed so far, I plan to do up to seven. I first debuted these at the Constructor Craft Fair, and I’ll have five of them complete and shown all together on September 15th at the Cigars and Stripes September art show.

I’ve also begun listing them in my Etsy shop. I’ll probably be adding one every few days.

“Sentry” Golem #1

This is something I’ve had in mind for a while: a series of these creatures that are just kind of inspired by the random shapes my kneaded eraser ends up in. I think of them as golems, but looking at this one, I know some people think of this as an alien.  That’s okay too.  It’s an alien golem.

Here’s the drawing I did a few years back that got me thinking of this idea.  This one’s done with pastel pencil and pen and ink.

Mini Paintings

I’ve added a few miniature paintings to my Renegade stock.  Three of them look to be the kickoffs to a new series: paintings based on metal song titles.  Here they are, each 3×3″.

Renegade Preparation

Working on some 3×3″ paintings for the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago this upcoming weekend.  I’ll post them as I’ve completed them, but nothing’s going to be for sale until the fair.  I can say though, that the theme is going to be metal song titles, and the evil they inspire.

Been busy

I’ve been doing a lot of side projects for the holidays.  One of the things I did was this painting for some friends of mine.  They loved it.  I was happy enough to consider doing more like it.

The main robots were thickened up with modelling putty to let them pop out of the canvas a little bit.  If I ever want to get something that popped out a little more, I’d need a stable surface, like canvas board or masonite.  This painting was done on a stretch canvas.

And then I block printed some coasters, as an experiment for a new Etsy product.
