Centipede Print final version

Here’s the final centipede print, including a few little pill-bugs (another block I cut just in time for this project).  The pill bug will probably get its own dedicated print, because I like it so much.  This was the quickest shot I could get, but a better one will be taken soon.

I’m going to be doing a number of things with the centipede blocks, including having the segments printed on separate panels strung together.  Creating seven separate blocks gave me a lot of flexibility for creativity.  It’s giving me some other ideas for future projects.

Next project

I’m working on a giant centipede print.  It will be cut in several different blocks, and printed in slightly differing arrangements over a number of editions.  I’m hoping to find some nice Japanese paper to use for the print, but I may settle for regular old printing paper like the “Pollution” print that I did  a few months back.

Since I’m anxious to start painting again, plus have other projects up my sleeve, this might be the last major printing effort I do for a while.  I’m far better at coming up with ideas than actually seeing them to fruition.  It doesn’t help that I only get maybe two or three free hours a night to work on things like this.  I’m a librarian by profession.

Here are some photos of the sketches, and a cut linoleum piece.

On selling things

I’m a bad salesman.  Quite possibly, I’m the only person who could come back from a sales trip with a negative balance.  Which is why I don’t do it.  I have no confidence in my product, even when I have faith in what I produce.  When I managed to produce artwork in the past, it was often something I’d squirrel away against some future hope that it could be part of a portfolio.  I once harbored the dream of getting a few illustration jobs here and there.  But, the professional attitude, the know-how, and the networking simply weren’t there.

Anyway, now I’m pushing ahead my own way, and to hell with the way things are done.

In Other News . . . I’m working on another block print.  It’s a project I started in April, and had to drop for a while when I moved this summer.  Now that I’m getting everything sorted out again, it’s time to pick up this project.  It’ll be a giant centipede, printed in separate segments, probably on a nice Japanese paper, or something that appeals to me.

And, returning to my love of pen and ink, I’ve got a series of drawings cooking that should be wicked enough to live up to my moniker.
