Now this looks tasty

Meet the caterpigler.  It is roughly the size of a pig.  Nobody knows what happens when the cocoon hatches, but there’s always a couple of tattered animal remains near the discarded husk.  The caterpigler itself is vegetarian.

New Art on Etsy

I added a new piece to my Etsy store.   It’s another addition to my ongoing series about the denizens of the Arbortoreum.  Yes, I butchered the word “arboretum” on purpose.  The Arbortoreum is a special grove for trees that have cracked under the pressure of life in this world.  They just sit and dream of crazy animals that inhabit them.  This here’s a scorpmunk.

I was going to quit this series after I had about five or six, but I’ve had a couple of cool brainstorms and I think I have at least 10 out of my actual sketches alone.

Right now I’m working on another hybrid animal, and an illustration of the phrase “pig in a python”, which indicates the baby boomers, if you don’t know.  I didn’t.  The hybrid animal will be a cross between a goat and an ape.

I’m also looking for artists that have done traditional acrylic paintings and spruced them up by incorporating LEDs.   So far, I’ve only found one such LED light painting, otherwise, not even the garish stuff I’d been afraid I’d come across (you know, like a Jesus with LED halo).  I’m just looking to see if it’s been tried, and if  it’s even worthwhile.  What I have in mind is not quite as bad as the above, I’d be putting some effort into incorporating the lights logically and tastefully.

Anyway.  That’s enough for now.

The Racoonigator

Still keeping up with the Arbortarium mixed-animal series. My self-publishing ambitions haven’t pushed that to the sidelines yet. This is the much feared racoonigator. You don’t want to find one in your garbage.

Nightmares from the Arbortoreum

There is a place where trees are planted that cannot, and will not, ever grow quite right.  Some people say they are insane, others say they’re just mutant trees.  They are all taken to a place of rest, a place free of animals and people.  An Arbortoreum.  There they sit in silence amongst each other, and while away their twisted days by dreaming of animals to dwell under and within their gnarled boughs.

This is the start of a new series of original ink drawings done on basswood plaques.  These drawings will be available from the Old Scratch store as they appear.

Mole Men!!!

Yesterday I was perusing BoingBoing and happened across a post about the 700 Mole-Men Project.  Now, things have been pretty busy for me at work, but as soon as I got home I sat down at my wobbly drafting table and whipped up a couple of drawings.  Maybe it was my frame of mind, but this excited my creativity a lot more than the 700 Hoboes project.  Doing anything fast simply isn’t in my nature, so I was surprised that I completed these two:

Attack of the Platyrabbis

You know that, unlike other living things, the aforementioned platyrabbis (see the last post) didn’t actually evolve over time.   Rather, two separate animals evolved, in two very remote areas of the world.  And then they made their way into my mind, and one day, they collided.  The result:

So, um, don’t mess with the platyrabbis.
