Woodburn artwork in progress

I’ve got to figure out what I’m doing with the center portion.  I’ve got a few ideas, we’ll see what works best.

Post-Renegade, Pre-50/50

I got a better picture of that Boaraffe I posted a few weeks ago.

Now that Renegade is done with, I’m preparing for 50/50 Pilsen, an arts and crafts event planned by Mandy and two of her friends as a way to explore the intersections between art and craft. The first weekend of October, there will be a craft fair, the next weekend, an art exhibit which will continue for the rest of the month, on weekends and by appointment.

That’s it, this is the last one.  Here’s a little preview, a better shot will come later, as I get time.  Meanwhile, back to the grindstone preparing for Renegade.

Constructor Aftermath

For anyone who is curious, two of the new hybrid animals I had on display at Constructor are now posted on my Etsy store: the Tarsnail and the Seacock.

I’ll be posting the Mousegonfly and a couple of other new pieces later on this week.

Hybrids are back

I’ve returned to the Hybrid series, officially titled “Creatures of the Arbortarium” (that’s an imaginary word, not a mispelling-an asylum for mad trees) for one last time.  While, I notice that my art has often had some kind of hybrid creature lurking in the foreground or background, I would like to get away from these plaques in favor of some other ideas that I’ve been itching to explore.   One major difference between the current animals and my previous ones is that, rather than just working with pen and ink and watercolor pencil, I’ve begun burning the animals with a rudimentary woodburning pen.  Here’s a couple I have so far.

Renegade Craftin Lodge

Posted in animals, Hybrids with tags , , , , , , , , on May 24, 2010 by scratchyb

Some of the Creatures of the Arboretarium have made their way to the Renegade Handmade store, appearing in their Spotlight Gallery as part of the Craftin’ Lodge show.  Check it out if you are in the Chicago area, the show will run until around mid-June.  If you can’t make it, the animals can be seen online at the RenegadeHandmade site.  You can see the Racoonigator, Caterpigler, Octophant, Porcubear, Scorpmunk and Sploth there.

For the people who follow the weekly adventures of the Odjits, my posts will probably be a little irregular these next two weeks.  I’m working on a number of ideas for the Constructor Craft Fair in Berwyn June 6th.

Illustration Friday: “Muddy”

Muddy

The three-trunked glorfnet is a mud-dweller, unlike its wooly cousins in the far north of the planet.  It thrives on the bacteria that lives in the mud, and rarely ever leaves its nutrient rich, albeit, messy, home.  Consequently, it is also far less intelligent than its arctic cousins.  Many glorfnets have plants growing on them, usually the blue-leaved premanian vine.
