I found an old mail sorter in the local Goodwill that I made a few modifications to:

Another woodburning experiment.

I burned in the outline and then painted it with diluted acrylics.  Still just learning, but so far I’m happy with the way this is turning out.  A few more of these little things and I might be ready for some of the bigger projects I have in mind.

Over the past few months I’ve been taking a letterpress class at Lillstreet Art Center.  It’s been interesting, and a little trying on my patience.  Setting type is a painstaking process, and doesn’t carry the same intrinsic reward for me as meticulous drawing does.  So I kept my use of type to small phrases, like this design, and combining them with my linocut blocks.  I’ve got a few more experimental ideas to try in the last remaining weeks of the class, so we’ll see what else develops.

Renegade days

So far Renegade’s been going pretty smooth for me.  Here’s a brand new card I drew and printed up Thursday and Friday, just in time for the weekend.

This will be added to the Old Scratch Etsy store within the next few days.   You can’t tell from the picture or the card, but I used silver ink for the spines of the creature in the original drawing.

Renegade Holiday Sale

A while back I posted about the Odjits, creatures of my invention who live in the tundra and, well, do bad things.  So this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Sale, I’ll be debuting these fellas.  As of January 2010, the Odjits will appear as a regular one-panel comic on my blog.

And that’s not all that’ll be at the fair.  The full volume of the Creatures of the Arboretarium will be there, as will a few other fun surprises.  If you can’t show, I’ll be twittering the fair, so you can follow me that way, should you wish to be led astray.
